Self Expression

Recently a friend of mine suggested that I write a blog on self expression.

The action and spirit of expressing one's aesthetic inner-self is quintessentially and independently personal, yet life experience, acknowledgement and influence play as key factors in both process and execution as well as outcome and result.

As a practicing artist who is constantly evolving and developing I have to confess that my thoughts and feelings present themselves visually on a level that is concealed from reality, both deliberately and unconsciously.

Frankly, I make paintings that I want to see. Perhaps that could be defined as pure intuitive expression. I do believe the spontaneous nature of my work is coupled with and in juxtaposition with a strategic sense of control which I have over the picture, compositionally or otherwise.

Most of what I do is a mystery, I simply create out of a necessary need, which is in a sense instinctive in nature.

I do examine the three-dimensional world, not so much from the surface, but more so from the subterranean level. In a sense I observe the skeletal structure of this dimension, the origin and its seminal platitudes.

Most obviously my creative self expression is spoken in a dialect using colour and depth. For colour is an undeniable gift that we should never be underestimated or take for granted.
